Reproduction, Caroline Lees

I enjoyed reading through this lecture. I was interested in learning how humans are choosing their mates. I was not sure if I was going to see something along the lines of, “A woman chooses a man, similar to her father." When a woman is looking for a mate, she chooses one who makes her feel safe and secure, for life. This makes sense; most women are born with motherly instincts and finding a capable mate is definitely an important part of raising children. Many women will look for a man with money, but it does not seem to be the same for men looking for women. Women in the videos are interested in expensive cars and high salaries, and as mentioned, this could be because women are not given the same opportunity as men. I have seen posts on social media about men being harassed for letting their female mate treat them to things, or their female mate being the “breadmaker” of the house. Maybe someday, this will become a little bit more normal.
Men are interested in something else: physical attraction. Though this is for the same reason: searching for a mate to produce offspring with. I think it is fascinating that most of the laws of attraction are based around making a family. I believe we are going to start seeing holdhouses without children much more than before. I, for one, am a woman who does not want children.
