According to the book self- esteem is assessed as self esteem = success/ pretensions. Your pretensions are what you imagine your self to be. As a child we all have dreams to become a doctor, a princess, a rock star, or a king. As we get older these dreams of what we want to be become a reality. Growing up the question was always "What do you wanna be when you grow up?" You answer it with your dream career, then something more realistic and eventually you choose what you want to do. Most often this changes as you mature. When you get to college the first question is "what is your major?" College students change their major as frequently as they do their laundry. So have you decided? Do you know what you want to be? Your self-worth applies to how you feel how much you are worth. College students strive to have the highest self-worth because the higher their self-worth the better they are. They are more likely to be hired by a company. They are more likely to earn the most salary and be most successful. Self-esteem is determined by the highest success, with the highest career. But is self-worth everything?
