Drugs Lecture

This lecture had so much information on different types of drugs, how addiction works and the details about rehabilitation and relapses. There is a general category that specific drugs can fall under. Drugs like caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, amphetamines, cannabis, cocaine and opiates fall under the category of psychoactive drugs. Some of these are more used than others and caffeine, alcohol and nicotine are the one that are legal. Drug use is a broad category but one that is very scary. The addictiveness of these substances is very large and I have always learned and witnessed that one thing leads to another. I found it interesting that caffeine was included in this powerpoint but I do understand why. I know many people who cannot function without coffee during their days and that is the definition of addiction. There are many extrinsic factors that can lead to drug addiction, like genetic disposition and personality disposition. I don’t think many people look at addiction as a genetic component but there have been studies conducted that individuals are vulnerable to drug experimentation and addiction. I found all of the information in this lecture very informative about drug addiction. There is a lot that goes into someone being addicted to drugs, including their environment, mental state, genetics, personality and other specific enforcers. I think many people jump to conclusions when classifying someone as an addict and this lecture proved that wrong. Everyone is different and there is not one right answer as to how or why someone is an addict.
