Dying to Be Thin

Anorexia nervosa can result from pressures of multiple origins including the media, parents, and peers. Individuals suffering from this disorder practice harsh dietary limitations to food intake. Women aged 15 to 29 make up around 90% of the cases. Many individuals view their physical appearance as being overweight when they are actually extremely underweight. This dissatisfaction with one's own body can lead to purging and over-usage of dietary pills or laxatives. Food deprivation can cause bodily damage, such as the intestines becoming intolerant to food. Once this occurs, any food intake thereafter will result in nausea or diarrhea. Anorexia nervosa is a very difficult disorder to break out of, but the help of psychologists and therapists is key.
