Finding a partner

When finding a partner there are many things that play a role in our decision making. Physical attractiveness is a main characteristic that most people use when selecting a partner. In fact in nature peacocks spread their feathers in mating rituals to attract peahens along with producing particular sounds, these are mate values. Mate values are characteristics that make them desirable to another person as a mate, some examples of mate values include one being emotionally stable, faithful, loyal, financially secure etc. People with higher attractiveness are better at attracting mates and they also have more sexual experiences. The good gene hypothesis examines the beauty signals that a person with good genes has such as intelligence, good immune systems, healthy babies, and good parenting. People select partners with high mate value and people do not select partners with low mate value.
