Post 2: Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

This video clip from finding Nemo demonstrates Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, during the safety stage. Nemo's father has serious anxiety's about going outside the colony. He feared letting Nemo go to school because he feared his son was not good enough of a swimmer to be safe, even within the colony. Nemo's father does not feel secure about anything in the ocean, he does not feel anything is safe. This is what challenges and frustrates Nemo into swimming out to the boat. Nemo does feel secure, he is too young not to, the only thing he knows is what he has been taught by his father and at this point in the film, he is annoyed with his father and thinks he is out of his mind.

Nemo's father will never be able to progress to any other part of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs because he will never feel safe or secure with the ocean. He watched his family get eaten, Nemo was the only survivor. He clings to Nemo because this is his only remaining family. In which safety and security become of utmost importance, also meaning that the Ocean will never be safe enough, because of his fear of losing his last and only family.
