Post 3: Caffeine

The words “caffeine” and “drugs” are two words that are not commonly associated together, but caffeine is the most commonly used psychoactive stimulant across the world. It is found in everything from chocolate to colas and makes individuals feel more alert and energized. Caffeine can also cause those who use it to feel anxious, experience lack of sleep, and have irregular heart beats. Millions of people depend on coffee and energy drinks to get through their day to day life. While caffeine is a legal stimulant, it is important to note how high your intake is so you don't experience the side effects drastically. I personally do not drink coffee or energy drinks because they make me feel very anxious and I don’t like how they taste, instead I try to keep a very high water intake and make sure that I get enough sleep at night.

  1. Unfortunately for me, I work very long hours and have become dependent on caffeine from a cup of coffee daily. If I don't have my coffee, I am irritable, have a headache, and feel so sluggish that I can't get through my day. The real danger for people with caffeine dependence are the energy drinks that contain a large amount of caffeine, which are detrimental to people's health, causing negative side effects like high blood pressure, anxiety, and insomnia.
