Self Control

Self control is something that we all have deep inside of us. The problem is there is no book to tell us how to use it. Whether its self control for eating that apple pie or learning how to say no to your daughter when she gives you that pout face. As said in the slides its about conflicting outcomes and not about willpower. Self control I feel is more powerful than any drug can ever be. This is an ongoing battle everyone has to battle till the end. Even though it may not seem like it our human minds are equipped to deal with self control. The problem is we don't know where to start in our minds to handle certain situations. Now that I'm older I feel like I can handle certain things better than I used to. But somehow that darn self control creeps back into your one defeated situation. That's why its so hard to kick bad habits. There goes the pursuit of perfection.

  1. Really awesome job Chris! Your comment "Now that I'm older I feel like I can handle certain things better than I used to. But somehow that darn self control creeps back into your one defeated situation" really stood out to me. I feel as if I'm able to handle situations better now that I'm older as well. Rather than responding to immediate impulses, we can plan, we can evaluate alternative actions, and we can refrain from doing things we'll regret. We can also take advantage of these human abilities by developing wisdom and willpower.

  2. Oh how I so wish there was a book to tell us how to use self control as well. I liked how you said that self control is more powerful than any drug can ever be and how it is an ongoing battle that everyone deals with. Awesome post!

  3. Self-control is definitely something I struggle with. I used to smoke a couple years ago and luckily I've been able to quit but its a weekly struggle to maintain self control.
