Tuesday in class, we discussed how over time physical human evolution has lead to the evolution of motivation. I found an interesting article that also reflects how as society changes, so do our forms of motivation. In the work place and other instances in life, many external rewards have been the source of creating motivation in individuals. Now, we are more inclined to lean toward what motivates us from within, also known as the "self-determination theory". More accomplishments and satisfaction comes from choosing to be motivated from within rather than from someone else.
"The pleasure principle does not abandon the intention of ultimately obtaining pleasure, but it nevertheless demands and carries into effect the postponement of satisfaction, the abandonment of a number of possibilities of gaining satisfaction and the temporary toleration of unpleasure as a step on the long indirect road to pleasure" Sigmund Freud
"The consequences of an act affect the probability of it's occurring again" BF Skinner
