Intrinsic vs Extrinsic motivation

When thinking about Intrinsic and Extrinsic motivation they are complete opposite from one another. Intrinsic motivation comes from within. You engage in certain activities and do certain things because you enjoy it and get personal satisfaction. On the other hand Extrinsic motivation is when you are extrinsically motivated, meaning you do something in order to gain an external reward. For example Intrinsic motivation is participating in a sport because you enjoy playing it not because you want to win a prize.  An example of Extrinsic motivation is working overtime in order to receive extra pay.
