Drug Addiction is a Disease

Addiction is a disease

Drug addiction has been looked at by society for decades as a problem that could be handled if “addicts” would just get clean. As people who have ever dealt with addiction, it can be looked at “lacking willpower”. This is not true in the slightest. Addiction can stem from multiple things such as traumatic life experiences, mental illness and even genetics. Addiction can affect anyone and will change the way the brain and body work. Getting clean from addiction is also not as easy as people think. Rehabs cost a lot of money and take time. Going to rehabilitation centers also has a huge stigma around it. This is why many people who suffer from addiction will not reach out.

  1. I really enjoyed reading your post, I think that you really made a good point when you said that they make it look like they like will power instead of noticing its a problem.

  2. I agree with you completely. People do not want to get help due to the stigma and a lot of addiction and mental health issues can be help if we stop the stigma behind them and make the care more accessible and affordable.
